{Dessert Table} Blue & Green Birthday Table

This weekend we celebrated my daughter’s 13th birthday.  Blue and green are her favorite colors, so I used that as the starting point for this table.

  

I would love to take credit for the cake, but alas I cannot.  It is from an amazing bakery here in Vegas called Nothing Bundt Cakes. If you live here you MUST try it--it’s heavenly. We had white chocolate popcorn and Oreo truffles too, yum!  Not to mention all the candy.

The cake pops were created by an amazingly talented lady: Deena from My Sugar Mama.  I photographed some of her amazing creations the other day so she offered to help out with my little party. What a Gal!!

I’m in love with buntings so of course I had to add one to the cake as well.

The party was sooo fun.  We had our own drive-in movie!  Emily, and her sweet husband, set up a movie screen on the side of their house along with an amazing surround sound system, and we sat outside under the stars with a gaggle of thirteen year old girls and watched “How to Train your Dragon!”

Fall Table

The baby breath of winter….Leaves ablaze in fervent colors, dancing down the streets like school girls all a-giggle….Soup bubbling on the stove top, wafting an aroma of home….Goosebumps that reach for the warmth of hand stitched quilts and knitted sweaters….Harvest blessings of seeds sewn and tended….Home, family and love wrapped in cinnamon and pumpkin pie….

Fall means all these things to me. I hope you enjoy perusing my fun harvest table. I’ve got all the fabulous recipes to help you make one of your own! Enjoy!

{Halloween} WhipperBerry Style

Really? I love my job! Who else gets to create such “spooky” beauty and call it work? The challenge in designing one of our Halloween tables came when I decided to still emphasize some of the creepy details surrounding a celebration originally purposed to honor the dead, and yet display it with eye-catching form. If you can find style in the swirl of a spider web, then this table’s for you!

 

I love the pleasures of the fall. Cooler weather, warmer colors, and best of all Halloween. (i.e. pumpkins, parties, costumes, and an endless array of goodies.)   How fun it was to search the possibilities and eliminate when the options crossed the line between eerie and flat out disgusting. My efforts were focused on avoiding the traditional All-Hallows-Eve colors, though it’s impossible to leave a Halloween party completely devoid of black and orange. I felt compelled to toss in sparks of green, purple, and an occasional yellow just for variation. What you see here are some of my favorites, from the chocolate yogurt cups and frozen layered sherbet, to ghost pears and ”monster munch”. Stay tuned for further details, recipes, and other “dish” from our fantastic table to follow in the coming days.

{Dessert Table} White Table

There’s a lot that goes through my mind when designing a table.  I am constantly changing and tweaking my designs until I feel like it all just “fits”.  I won’t even buy anything until I can visualize the whole table in my mind.

I draw upon the art education I've had quite often.  One of the most important lessons I learned involves making sure that the eye flows properly around the "art work".  Typically there are several ways to accomplish this, but with this table I struggled since every food element on the table was white.  Colors, shades, even the shapes of things are very important in my design process. For example, when I designed my Pea in the Pod table, I not only coordinated the green, white, and accents of yellow, I also incorporated a lot of round elements in the table. It provided further cohesiveness, and visual stimulation.

This all-white dessert table was designed for a 40th Birthday Party.  When designing a monochromatic table, I found that texture was very important to me; it really helped separate the items and give contrast, without the use of different colors.  I tried to make sure I incorporated lots of texture in the cake frosting, through the use of popcorn, in the candies, etc. Another element I used, along with varying textures, was to create varying heights in this table.  Although this table doesn't incorporate a lot of taller elements, I used the cake as the focal point and the ferns to help draw the eye up a bit.  Other food items, like the donut holes, candies, and popcorn gave a smaller, but much needed, “lift” as well.

 

This table was so fun to put together, and I was really happy with how everything turned out.  I love how a dessert table will take any party to an entirely new level.  I hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I did creating it!

{Table} Halloween in a Box
